A supposed fix has been posted by a few users. Use AMX to remove the use of the shield and the problem will go away.

The first time, it died on aztec, then it died on dust after it recovered approx an hour later. Anyone else have this problem after the update today? The hlds is is running on a FreeBSD box with full linux compat libs, with amx and metamod on it. I just rolled back to the previous so files (2 updates back) and it's quite stable.
