Am I missing something? This is on RHE 3.0 and I used STEAM with the earlier posted update method.
I had the same problem. The installation is mixed. Probably you didn't update your steam binary before or one of your *.blob is disturbing the correct update. I deleted my *.blobs (backup them before) and got a fresh steam-binary then it worked for me.
