I didn't think HL2 itself was mutiplayer.

Actually from Valves point of view leaving the way to crack it available
until halflife 2 has been on shelves for a few weeks may indeed be a smart
move. A multiplayer game is only fun if theres players and a cracked
version gurantees more players. Once you have a popular game and
everyone hooked, you make it uncrackable and then everyone who had cracked
it purchases it.

I think the day they make Steam hack proof is the day we see a whole heap
less players on servers. Id prefer the exploitable version of steam stuck
around for at least a few more weeks so that it has a chance for
legitimate player numbers to reach a higher level, even if it is an
abosolute fucking pain in the ass to ban idiots who keep getting new
steamid's.
