Is it possible to make an other mailinglist for this problems ? I don't like to get messages about HL2 in hlds_linux list.
Thanks

No, both versions can work in offline mode forever*. The only functional difference between the two is that people who used a retail CD key currently need to have their CD/DVD in the CD/DVD drive to play.
* (reinstalling the OS, blowing away (resetting) the registry, deleting files under the Steam folder, running under another user account or copying the install to another machine will cause the client to need to re-authenticate itself).

So just to clarify - the CD/DVD version, once unlocked, is able to be played in offline mode forever (until, I assume, it is reinstalled off CD/DVD)? And the Steam version requires authentication every two weeks or so to remain in offline mode?
