Nope, I'm not, every game out there has had their cheats, Quake3
really started to go downhill once OGC came out, end result Id
contracted evenbalance, PB came out and sorted it, because they knew
it was enough of a problem to kill the game, and cheat prevention
isn't their core skillbase. Quake3 was getting full of them up until
that point. For CoD exactly the same happened, the game got loads of
cheats, PB came out, its reputation retrieved, same happened in
BF1942. It's not like no cheats have been written, many of them use
the same methods for all games. Then take a look at u2k4, it has one
person from the company trying to keep up, and one person from the
community (primarily, who may have given up..not sure), less player
base to all the others, but more cheats get through, why?

I think you're confusing the size of a gaming community with the ease
it is to cheat. There are more cheats in CS because its so damn easy,
not because its more popular. If PB hadn't come out for those other
games there's would be more chats percentage wise than CS (and they
probably would have died). If Valve had a contract with someone who's
wages were directly related to their perceived performance in
preventing cheats then you'll see how possible decent cheat prevention
can actually be in CS. The point is everyone knows cheat prevention
can be loads better in the game, so why not go down that route?

More important than all of that I think is the perceived confidence as
well by the community, if they believe a company is doing all they can
to prevent cheating, they will generally support it. It's fine saying
give people the benefit of the doubt with dodgy shots etc, as most
admins do. But if its a case of there is too much suspicion in the
first place, the problem is already established and the aim has
failed. You want to remove that suspicion, and give people confidence
in skills of a game to let it thrive.
