The odd thing is, they were detected cheating and could play easily later. That's what you should look for...

VAC doesn't use that message. The message format for a VAC ban in the logs is: "Secure: \"%s<%i><%s><>\" was detected cheating and dropped from the server.\n"
One thing VAC certainly doesn't do is tell you the cheat it detected.

These are standard messages when VAC detects a cheater. All clients will get this message and its available in the server log file. And yes, it bans immediatly after this message.

I don't know where those messages are coming from, but VAC never tells what cheat caused the ban, and it never bans immediately.

VAC Cheat KiFFERSTUEBCHEN.de 2005-04-17 20:13:58 5555555555555<PASS> STEAM_0:0:2411599 was detected cheating and dropped from the server. VAC Cheat KiFFERSTUEBCHEN.de 2005-04-09 02:08:23 [CSK] LILY FOX STEAM_0:0:2411599 was detected cheating and dropped from the server. VAC Cheat KiFFERSTUEBCHEN.de
The annoying thing is, that they came back a day later and played again several times?! This bug happens on 1.6 linux servers, hopefully VAC2 bans better....
