To my knowledge there are two reserved slot settings in Mani. One turns the reserved slots on and off and the other defines how many slots.
This may sound weird, but do you have both values set to 0? I haven't tried it, but it could be possible that you have reserved slot "access" turned off, but still have 5 slots reserved.
