Not only have I noticed much higher CPU usage on the SRCDS engine, but I have noticed that it used the same % and mem % no matter what hardware platform is used. On Dual 244 Opterons w/ 2GB Ram, even a 12 person 100 tickrate server utilizes between 40% and 65% CPU and 4-6% MEM (CPU out of 200%). On Dual Dualcore 265 Opterons (4 processors now) w/ 4GB Ram, the very same 12 person 100 tickrate server utilizes 40-65% CPU and 4-6% MEM. This all started with VAC2, before VAC2 was released the CPU usage was quite normal and we were able to intermix Source servers with 1.6/CoD/Quake3 and just about anything else without a problem. Now, if I were to put 2 Source servers on any machine (even a quad opteron), those two Source servers fight for CPU and choke out any other game (we're talking 65-80% apiece for those 2 source servers --- taking up a real 80% out of 100% of the processors). The same happens if a 64bit HLDS server runs full while a Source server is running full, they both have double CPU usage than normal simply because they are fighting each other. The 64bit HLDS servers don't fight with each other, nor 32bit HLDS servers run in emulation....just when SRCDS is involved does this occur.
