Gee, they sure did make a big deal about releasing 64bit binaries two
years ago.... I think the hosting companies, which deal with this game
and it's subsequent faults on a daily basis, might know what they are
talking about. The 64bit binaries are more stable for high frames,
provide lower CPU usage compared to their 32bit binary counterparts and
also utilize less ram with lower process priority quotients. This is
the Linux thread, NOT the Windows thread where "you don't need it" and
"just don't use it" are commonly used phrases. The simple fact is, VAC2
makes their game run like crap and gives VALVe a bad name in the gaming
community for the repeated faulty updates (that's right, the gamers
actually know whose to blame for these problems). Let me get off my
soap box, Alfred is due for a "they'll be released when they are ready"
incantation.

Just ignore me. I was answering 4 different questions at the same time.
(though honestly Valve has no reason to support 64bit binaries at this
time.)

64bit binaries don't really provide any benefit unless you are dealing
with some 64 bit floats or integers. (It would help not using the lib32
libraries, but this really isn't a Valve problem)

VALVE,

Do you have any information regarding the implementation of VAC2 for
the
AMD64 binaries for Half-Life Dedicated Server? It is my understanding
that the number of 64-bit servers used, both AMD Opteron and Athlon 64
based, is increasing exponentially. We only use AMD Opteron based
servers for hosting our game servers and it would be greatly
appreciated
if we could use the processing power of the AMD Opteron platform to its
fullest extent. Is there a timetable for the release of the new 64-bit
binaries, or is this not a priority for VALVE?

Thank you for your reply.
