I don't know how much it will help you, but today I reinstalled kernel on my
SuSe 9.1 from kernel-default to kernel-smp (Just a test, to check if HT
support on my P4 will help). And guess what? Now with 32 slot HLDS running
de_aztec I get only 40-50% CPU usage. A drop by ~ half.
But, now Linux detects my CPU with HT like 2 CPUs.

and our 6 servers is just like they should.
but we are running 32bit kernel instead of 64.
The issue has been on this list for a while, but Valve has yet to
comment on it. It's on the forums too, at
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=414765 for
example.
