Nice to hear. However, we had verified the problem already mentioned before here on the mailinglist. We had on a only4srcds-server this issue and only thing we did change was moving from athlonmp (32bit) to opteron (64bit) architecture AND increasing memory from 1.5gb to 2gb. Although memory was used only 400mb and cputime was peak10% every ~15minutes the source process began to allocate 100% cputime - locking the whole src process while the icmp ping was stable. We did check every possible on our side (kernel, cronjobs, potential dos/ddos, potential attacks by source clients) before searching steampowered forum and this mailinglist. Even on server without ANY plugins we could observe this sourceds attitude.
The solution was a posting on this mailinglist where someone reported problems with pingboost on amd64bit machines. We disabled pingboost and suddenly the cpuconsumption of srcds was gone! Since srcds is a product of valve (so is option pingboost), its their fault. I still cannot understand why they count on recent glibc versions and even SSE support (see other posts here n mailinglist) but does not solve this - meanwhile old - issue on amd64 plattforms. What we can verify. Its not a problem of distro - we checked fedora suse and debian. Its not a problem of kernel 2.6.x - we checked several recent kernel versions without any change (we could not check 2.4 since its outdated for recent distros). Its not a problem of configuration (we used standard configs, old and experienced configurations, modified version which should decrease cpu/mem consumption (lower tickrate, forcing rates, ....). we had ONLY success by disabling pingboost completely. Found the problem was a library i had installed to allow another program i was running on the box to work. I'll email Alfred and let him know there is a possible issue with these libraries on the same box. (Although it may not be valves problem / fault).
