This can most definitely be due to firewalling outgoing connections. For debugging purposes open port-range 27000-27050 for outgoing UDP and TCP traffic. In your firewall log you will be able to see which ports are used for updating (also for connecting to the steam master-servers etc!!), so then you will be able to specify the needed ports more precisely. --- Regime
