That's definitely worth doing for any site. Here's the .htaccess file I
use on my hl1 and hl2 web roots:

BrowserMatch ^Half-Life halflife
<Files *>
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
Allow from env=halflife
</Files>

<Files .htaccess>
order deny,allow
deny from all
</Files>


It's not fool proof of course. Spoofing a user-agent is relatively
trivial.
