I have many boxes with AMD X2 4800+ and 4GB of ram. I run only HLDS on
those boxes and I have optimised kernel with HZ=1000 and im not using
pingboost at all. I have FPS constanty at stable 500 at 10 players. If i
use pingboost 1 or 2 FPS doesn't go higher than 500. Pingboost 3 raises
the FPS to 1000 but then the clock goes crazy. I use always the newest
kernel (now running with 2.6.18-rc7).

What settings are you using for "1000fps" servers?

And: Are the FPS still stable at 1000 with 10 Players on it?

But all the Kids want 1000 FPS - even if they are unstable with 10

Pingboost 3 makes counter-strikes internal clock crazy. I suggest you
dont use it. Compile new kernel with HZ=1000 etc. and then run the game
with sys_ticrate 10000 and i think that you dont even need pingboost
because the servers FPS is high enought without it.

There seems to be a small problem with timing in HLDS tweaked at this
level. The easiest way to check is to listen to the bomb timer beep, if
the HLDS is having timing problems when the bomb gets into its middle
beeping phaze it doesnt beep consistently. We have found that with the
bomb timer set to 35 seconds, it will actually take 33.5 to explode.
(Have to watch this one in leagues etc).
I can reproduce this on most Linux kernels compiled at 1000hz and the
server set to pingboost 3 with a sys_ticrate of 10000 in the server.cfg.
In an application that was developed so long ago and on much older
kernels its hardly surprising that there are glitches like this. It
would be great if it could be fixed tho.
I have not as yet been able to reproduce the problem with source and can
happily run 1000fps servers.

If this could be fixed it would be greatly appreciated
