Actually 2.6.16.X _can_ be an up2date kernel ... depending on X .... In my experience it got much more stable fps as with for example .18, thats why i run 2.6.16.40+ on most of our machines. And since there is nothing addet in the latest reps i would need for our servers .. there actually is no good readson to upgrad to .20 if your .16 is up2date ....
Since most of the guys "complaining" about the bad performance claim to use1000hz preempt kernels, i bet they read that or any other similar thread years ago. regards Arne Guski www.server-sales.de

Go here.. www.kernel.org and look to see what the latest release is (currently rc is 21.rc3).. give that a try as there actually is an improvement over the current .20 stable DL the kernel and compile it as per the steam thread.. don't do the jiffies tweak if you are not concerned about the higher FPS... What is to lose,, a night of actually trying something besides sitting here and complaining to Alfred that your stuff doesn't work while running outdated kernels?
