my notebook couldn't connect, too.

easy fix for this:
- delete "ClientRegistry.blob" in steam folder

the next time you start steam, it will update itself.
after that it asks you again for your password and that's it ;)

random problem here. all of a sudden my steam client is not
connecting.
it comes up with a message claiming either my net connection is broken
or the steam network is down. what's weirder is that i have another
client on the same line that is working fine. as i write this it is
playing CS 1.6.

Afaik it was working last night. can anyone confirm this problem or is
it just me?
