I recently updated my HL2 Deathmatch server to the latest version, and
much to my chagrin, in-game chat no longer works.

Typing in messages on the client works, and the server receives them.
However, the client does not seem to receive the messages properly,
sticking the error message "Couldn't dispatch user message (24)
Netchannel: failed processing message svc_UserMessage." in the
console. If I turn on cheats and developer messages on the client, I
notice "CUserMessages::DispatchUserMessage: Bogus msg type 24 (max ==
24)".

On the server, I'm getting a new message on startup that I haven't seen before:
net.cpp (960) : Assertion Failed: 0 == iRet && iValLen == sizeof( iVal
) && cSendBufSize <= iVal
net.cpp (968) : Assertion Failed: 0 == iRet && iValLen == sizeof( iVal
) && cRecvBufSize <= iVal"
I don't see this on my Windows server with HL2MP, but I do see this on
a Counter-Strike Source server under Linux (and chat works on the CSS
server).

Various version information:
'Base Source Shared Models' version 4
'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4
'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8
'Source Dedicated Server Linux' version 89
'Half-Life 2 Deathmatch' version 33 (server reports 1.0.0.12/7 3224)
'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 67 (server reports
1.0.0.34/7 3224)

Steam update tool is version 23, I think.
One other (unrelated, I think) bug I noticed was when I deleted my
installation record blob files, Steam reported the done percentages
with numbers such as 0.00% for the materials, 11008900.00% for the
models, 19987700.00% for the sounds, and 65438900.00% for HL2DM.

I would really like (as I'm sure most people would) chat to start
working again :)

Thanks,
AgentHH
