WSAEADDRINUSE means a program is already bound to port 27020. (It's a
WinSock error message, but I'm guessing the Unix netcode of the engine
maps BSDSocket errors to WinSock errors, which are then processed by the
engine...) Using "netstat -nap | grep 27020", check which program it is.
Act accordingly (kill, restart with different port, etc.)

cheers for the link but it's no good. it doesn't cover the setup.
anyway, i found a couple of links and i had a trawl throught the
archives of the list (i don;t like doing that) and turned up some half
decent instructions but now i have a problem. it's as follows.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/steam/tatmatch> ./hltv +connect 193.33.187.111:27016 -port
27020 +rate 3500 +maxclients 10

Console initialized.
FileSystem initialized.
Network initialized.
ERROR! Network::CreateSocket: WSAEADDRINUSE.
***** FATAL ERROR *****
Proxy::Init: Could not create proxy port 27020.
*** STOPPING SYSTEM ***
ERROR! System::AddModule: couldn't initialize module (null).
Segmentation fault

the box is an athlon 5200+ X2 with 2GB of ram and running suse 10.2
x86_64 on kernel 2.6.22, recompiled to be 1000hz and patched with CFS
V22 (i followed the linux 1000fps how to on the steam forums and used
a few tweaks of my own)

so anyone got any ideas?

ok i admit it i'm dim. i've googled for a couple of hours and i
can only find instructions for windows (and then where on the
Enemydown site and looked pretty poor). the situation is thus: a
mate of mine wants me to host his matcyh server on my dedi's but
it's been a while since i used HLDS and i have never set up HLTV.
i'm more to SRCDS and we all know how easy vlave made SRCTV to
setup.

any pointers or links would be very welcome.

cheers lads
