Hum, bummer. Is this a solution you use? It does sound interesting for a 
quick-fix once it is set up..

Right, I restart as well, however many of the servers are vanillainstalls with 
no mods loaded, and the behaviour is the same. 

Another "solution" can be to check for a heartbeat via rcon and restart it if 
it doesn't answer.. however this is really going around the problem.
