In my previous post regarding the ma_timeIeft exploit, Don brought it to our attention that a fix was written over at Mattie's eventscripts. When I went over to Mattie's forums, I discovered that the fix was written for what is actually a much more serious (but related) problem.
My original post was only about a minor annoyance, that is, someone spamming "timeleft" across people's screens. If i am understanding the situation correctly, what I learned over at Mattie's forums is that people can and DO take it a step further and spam "timeleft" and other, non-mani commands in general, and even illegal commands until all clients crash from the server with "Client # overflowed reliable channel". I have been having this issue for perhaps a year, perhaps longer, and never knew why it was occurring. So my mistaken post regarding a minor annoyance related to only manimod, has helped me uncover a solution to a more major problem that I have been experiencing. The work-arounds to this crash exploit that are posted over at mattie are not perfect, so I'd like to submit this to the mailing list with the hopes that the engine itself can be modified to throttle such exploits. For your reference, here is the pertinent thread. Please note that although the thread was started regading mani exploits, my understanding is that there is an overlying general problem as well. http://forums.mattie.info/cs/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25535 _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
