I have similar issue. But I have only seen it freeze or rather hang at the startup sequence just before it comes to "Adding master server". This happens quite rarely. Maybe once or twice a week. ctrl-c and restart fixes this.
I am using mms with the plugins: Basic Admin Tool, Last Connected, High Ping Kicker & SteamBans.
