You wanted it, you get it. Tomorrow is today and the current lobby system fails in so many ways at the moment. Is lobby created so that Xbox360 players and PC players can join in same games? Feels a lot like it.
If i run a dedicated server, i would like to be able to connect for it directly and so would many of my friends so i/we could play in that particular server and not on some random crap. Right now players are thrown in to a random free slot servers at the different continent and pings are high. I'm sure you thought that this would be a great idea to fill up empty servers but it will not work as intended. There are situations where all 4 players which are from same country, are thrown in to a server at the opposite side of the world and thus everyone has high pings (yes, this happened to me and friends hour ago). Perhaps you say that when there are enough servers, this problem isnt an issue but personally i need an option where i add my favorite servers so i can play on reliable one. What if i quit the game while playing on some bad one that isnt able to run game properly? Do you punish me because i cant stand for crappy servers? I hear there is a reputation system for matchmaking that shows how good and reliable your teammates are. It bases the reputation based on gameplay, do you shoot teammates, do you help them, etc. If i quit the game from bad server, does it judges me as quiter and i lose my reputation? I sure do not want to play on crap servers. There is so little time to even play the game and i need the experience be flawless. What i need is a server which is not over 60ms (i can live with 80 but thats pretty much it) and plays ok. Also i need teamfriends and those i get with current system but i need an option to select proper server. Current system isnt going to work for me. Hell i cant even see the server pings or where it is! I dont see why anyone would run a dedicated server for this game (unless its a listen server by the player itself). There is no control who is allowed to play and no certain group who the server is targeted to. If i would like to run server for certain people only, this isnt possible. There is no password locking. How is "server popularity" ranked? By players count or its use? In any case, how can players pick the popular servers where to play? I see no option here. There is no real control over the server, your only job would be to keep it running. What does anyone get out from this? Players to a server where you can only get in with a luck? No one will sell gameservers for this game, there just isnt any point. No one will buy a server when there is no chance that you can play in that server that you just bought. Perhaps you guys at Valve knew this and created the "fill all servers" system because of this so there would be many servers to play on despite the lack of numerous dedicated servers which are available for TF2, CSS, DODS, etc. At some point people will stop doing "create servers" from themselves due to problems of their own game being too laggy. I tried, i failed. C2D E6600 wasnt enough when zombies horded in. With fps of 10 the game was a joke for me thus having less than 1Mbit/s upload bandwidth is just not going to cut it. I'm assuing a lot of people doesnt have even that much. If you really want to ditch many people who would be able to run servers for everyone, sell them or just have them up for promoting their company that sells servers, go ahead. You can run the servers yourself and dont do that just for US, do it for every continent. Pings from here are ~140ms to states. This is all i can think of now. -ics Eric Smith kirjoitti: > This is the first version of what we've been working on, and we're going to > want feedback from all of you once things start turning up tomorrow. > > -Eric > > > > _______________________________________________ > To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please > visit: > http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux > _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
