Drek, one more thing about this which might save you some headaches.  I 
recall you saying in a previous post that you are running Debian.  I 
found out the hard way that /dev/tcp and /dev/udp are not enabled in the 
Debian version of Bash.  I was using Lenny, and I spent about an hour 
trying to get that stuff to work before I Googled it and discovered that 
I would have to recompile Bash in order for it to work.
