One thing bothers me with forums vs mailing list. For example if there
is new exploit going on around there at servers (lets say a cvar that
crashes the server if player types it in his/her console) and someone
actually mentions about it at forums, suddenly post gets edited by
moderator. So now what? Some people spread the thing and it spreads like
wildfire on certain forums that are not under Valve moderators controll.
All of us did not see the cvar before it was edited off, we cannot
block it by flagging it as cheat with Eventscripts, Sourcemod or some
other prog (like one of Nephs). This leaves our servers vulnerable for
days before Valve gets around and makes a patch, if it happens at all
(i'm not sure if OB affecting physics_select cvar can still be used to
crash servers, or is it already patched?). If the message would be sent
to here, we could just see the sent message and deal with it. No one
likes crashy servers or to have one that could have been fixed by adding
simple 1 line to config.

If you do want to migrate mailing list users to forums, you will lose
some but more important is to give a lot of time for people to get used
to forums. Less than 2 weeks notification of closure about this mailing
list was pretty hard strike. Good thing these can now live on, much
easier to follow.
