I agree. Its impossible for Valve to test every update on every platform. Almost every other software company allows you to use a beta or release candidate before the official version comes out. I am actually typing this on Office Outlook 2010 Beta currently.
My server group runs a 'beta testing' server, where we test out plugins before they make it to our main servers. I would gladly add a -beta to the startup line and update it when beta release become available to see what impacts it has on our servers. I know this is about CSS Update, but my experience is with TF2 servers. One thing I am sure the beta testing phase could have caught would have been Natasha going limp every other update.
