I agree. Its impossible for Valve to test every update on every platform.

Almost every other software company allows you to use a beta or release 
candidate before the official version comes out. I am actually typing this on 
Office Outlook 2010 Beta currently.

My server group runs a 'beta testing' server, where we test out plugins before 
they make it to our main servers. I would gladly add a -beta to the startup 
line and update it when beta release become available to see what impacts it 
has on our servers.

I know this is about CSS Update, but my experience is with TF2 servers. One 
thing I am sure the beta testing phase could have caught would have been 
Natasha going limp every other update.

Also confirmed here.  Maybe valve should look at a different approach to 
testing, maybe a flag for the start line that allows it to get updates early 
for feedback.  It's not like people wouldn't do it either since it's in their 
best interest to test updates on their setup...
