humm - sorry - if you run 32-bits then you dont need that ia32-lib .
compress is needed if you cant do the first command "./hldsupdatetool.bin"
if that works, then it shouldnt be a problem..
its recomended to use the std repos ... more stable !

Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] problem installing on debian lenny
i have changed my sources.list to
debhttp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
deb-srchttp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
then, apt-get update
but still missing ia32-lib and compress...
i'm running 32bits debian lenny on a 32 bits computer without x-server.
any other idea?

Your sources list is incomplete.
updates and volatile alone aren't the complete debian system. You also
need the main debian repository.
That would be something like
debhttp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
deb-srchttp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
