I use one full installdir. untouched.
Then I link the common directories and files. Including any addon files
that can be shared, like the metamod binary. Anything that will be
different from a default installation are created. Like say the maps
directory, but each map that is included default are then linked to the
full installdir.
The real saver for filesize is the binaries. And timesaver when updating
several servers with steam.
Wrote a startup wrapper script that calls {hlds|srcds}_run with the
correct options for that server.
This has been working smoothly since aprox 2000, when I started linking
files due to the low diskspace.
I have not looked at Neph's script(s). So it might already be doing these
tasks.
