I use ftp and have the same message from time to time. Usually the network is just fine, but when it happens it can take down multiple servers. It should be as easy as "if no response in 2 seconds, just stop doing replays" but it just hangs there. Lately i have not seen it for the last couple of months though, but that could because my network is stable up till now i suppose.
