Finally gave up and resorted to Fedora-binary-on-CentOS-hack. Posting here for anybody else's benefit - anybody less of a Linux guru than me (which isn't saying much).
[FYI: Below is for 32-bit CentOS 5.9] Got this file: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive.fedoraproject.org/fedora/linux/releases/9/Everything/i386/os/Packages/libstdc++-4.3.0-8.i386.rpm Open it with 7-zip. Buried several levels deep will be "libstdc++.so.6.0.10" Copy libstdc++.so.6.0.10 to "/whaterverpath/steamcmd/linux32/libstdc++.so.6.0.10" Make link to that file named "/whaterverpath/steamcmd/linux32/libstdc++.so.6" cd /whaterverpath/steamcmd ./steamcmd.sh Eventually got the intended "Steam>" prompt. PS: Could probably use a newer version of that RPM (and resultant lib), but I *think* this is the minimum version that includes "GLIBCXX_3.4.9" and "GLIBCXX_3.4.10". _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
