Is that "release" or just "beta"?
Do you know if the existing clients people are running work with that as-is
today?
I notice that on my client machine, nothing has changed.
My client TFC setup is not yet using anything under the new folder structure
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life, etc.).
It is still using the old folder structure
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\STEAM_LOGON_HERE\team fortress classic).

Even if it is a "beta", as long as it is compatible with existing clients, I'll
give it a shot.

I think that happened almost simultaneously with all the other GoldSrc
games (i.e. when the Linux clients were released for them). There was
an initial hiccup when Steam didn't accept "tfc" and "dmc" as mod
names, but now it does.

./steamcmd.sh +login anonymous +force_install_dir goldsource
+app_set_config 90 mod tfc,dmc +app_update 90 validate +quit
