Have you tried using some sort of Live CD as a host?
Yes, I have the LFS-6.0 livecd here. It worked to a point, but I kept
failing tests. I couldn't leave it, and I couldn't stay with it. jhalfs
checked out of svn seems to go ok. Glibc crapped out on the localedef
thing in HLFS, so I have cooked a lowsecurity kernel and I'll go in to
bat with that, once I delete all this email I've just received.
Hm. I've built successfully from the LFS livecd. Also, the jhalfs
worked great. I can't comment on RHEL, but I have built from Fedora
Core 4 as a host, and that worked fine.
