Hi. I'm one of the (un)fortunate owners of an AMD x86_64 processors which gives me trouble with config.guess dependant building. The output of that utility is "x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu", which disables the PIC compiler option, if I understand it correctly.

Is there a workaround for this problem? I.e. creating a symlink called [insert correct name here; lib64-unknown-linux-gnu?] and pointing it to the correct lib directory? (I'm merely guessing here...)

BTW, do you know how much and in which ways this problem affects the HLFS building process? Is the compiler/binutils package the only one affected or will this bite again and again?
