At http://www.friedhoff.org/posixfilecaps.html there are a bunch of tips for using posix capabilities. Some highlights include dropping the suid bit from ping and xorg. kernel.org has some new libcap packages for linux-2.6.. it looks like someone is maintaining it again. The latest libcap depends on the Attr package, and probably also depends on file system extended attributes.
