Hi

In Chapter 6 "Installing Basic System Software" file /var/log/btmp must have 
600 permissions but not 644.

Otherwise daemon sshd (using PAM) from OpenSSH do'nt write to /var/log/btmp 
and complain to syslog when password is not valid:

sshd[8369]: Failed password for user7 from 192.168.1.201 port 42884 ssh2 
sshd[8369]: Excess permission or bad ownership on file /var/log/btmp
