The updates are related to the release of the games on the Mac. They've upgraded all 3 games to take advantage of the updated graphic capabilities introduced in the engine when the Orange Box was released. Previously, those upgrades were only added to Ep2. Now they're in HL2, HL2:Ep1 and Portal.
