The First Book of Divre Hayamim, starting at chapter 13

{13:1} David consulted with the captains of thousands and of
hundreds, even with every leader. {13:2} David said to all the
assembly of Yisra'el, If it seem good to you, and if it be of the LORD
our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brothers who are left in
all Eretz-Yisra'el, with whom the [1>]Kohanim[<1] and Levites are in
 their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves to us;
{13:3} and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we didn't
seek it in the days of Sha'ul. {13:4} All the assembly said that they
would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
{13:5} So David assembled all Yisra'el together, from the Shichor [the
brook] of Mitzrayim even to the entrance of Hamat, to bring the ark of
God from Kiryat-Ye`arim. {13:6} David went up, and all Yisra'el, to
Ba`alah, [that is], to Kiryat-Ye`arim, which belonged to Yehudah, to
bring up from there the ark of God the LORD that sits [above] the
Keruvim, that is called by the Name. {13:7} They carried the ark of
God on a new cart, [and brought it] out of the house of Avinadav: and
Uzza and Achyo drove the cart. {13:8} David and all Yisra'el played
before God with all their might, even with songs, and with harps, and
with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with
trumpets. {13:9} When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza
put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. {13:10} The
anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he struck him, because
he put forth his hand to the ark; and there he died before God.
{13:11} David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth on
 Uzza; and he called that place Peretz-Uzzah, to this day. {13:12}
David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of
God home to me? {13:13} So David didn't move the ark to him into the
city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the
Gittite. {13:14} The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom
in his house three months: and the LORD blessed the house of
Obed-edom, and all that he had.

{14:1} Hiram king of Tzor sent messengers to David, and cedar trees,
and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house. {14:2} David
perceived that the LORD had established him king over Yisra'el; for
his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Yisra'el's sake.
{14:3} David took more wives at Yerushalayim; and David became the
father of more sons and daughters. {14:4} These are the names of the
children whom he had in Yerushalayim: Shammua, and Shovav, Natan, and
Shlomo, {14:5} and Yivchar, and Elishua, and Elpelet, {14:6} and
Nogah, and Nefeg, and Yafia, {14:7} and Elishama, and Be`elyada, and
Elifelet. {14:8} When the Pelishtim heard that David was anointed king
over all Yisra'el, all the Pelishtim went up to seek David: and David
heard of it, and went out against them. {14:9} Now the Pelishtim had
come and made a raid in the valley of Refa'im. {14:10} David inquired
of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Pelishtim? and will you
deliver them into my hand? the LORD said to him, Go up; for I will
deliver them into your hand. {14:11} So they came up to
Ba`al-Peratzim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has
broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore
they called the name of that place Ba`al-Peratzim. {14:12} They left
their gods there; and David gave [1>]mitzvah[<1], and they were burned
with fire. {14:13} The Pelishtim yet again made a raid in the valley.
{14:14} David inquired again of God; and God said to him, You shall
not go up after them: turn away from them, and come on them over
against the mulberry trees. {14:15} It shall be, when you hear the
sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you
shall go out to battle; for God is gone out before you to strike the
host of the Pelishtim. {14:16} David did as God commanded him: and
they struck the host of the Pelishtim from Giv`on even to Gezer.
{14:17} The fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD
brought the fear of him on all nations.

{15:1} [David] made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared
a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent. {15:2} Then
David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for
them has the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister to
him forever. {15:3} David assembled all Yisra'el at Yerushalayim, to
bring up the ark of the LORD to its place, which he had prepared for
it. {15:4} David gathered together the sons of Aharon, and the
Levites: {15:5} of the sons of Kehat, Uri'el the chief, and his
brothers one hundred twenty; {15:6} of the sons of Merari, `Asayah the
chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty; {15:7} of the sons of
 Gershom, Yo'el the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty; {15:8}
of the sons of Elitzafan, Shemayah the chief, and his brothers two
hundred; {15:9} of the sons of Hevron, Eli'el the chief, and his
brothers eighty; {15:10} of the sons of `Uzzi'el, `Amminadav the
chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve. {15:11} David called for
Tzadok and Avyatar the [1>]Kohanim[<1], and for the Levites, for
 Uri'el, `Asayah, and Yo'el, Shemayah, and Eli'el, and `Amminadav,
{15:12} and said to them, You are the heads of the fathers' [houses]
of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that
you may bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, to [the
place] that I have prepared for it. {15:13} For because you didn't
carry it at the first, the LORD our God made a breach on us, because
we didn't seek him according to the ordinance. {15:14} So the
[2>]Kohanim[<2] and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the
ark of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el. {15:15} The children of the
Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles thereon,
as Moshe commanded according to the word of the LORD. {15:16} David
spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers the
singers, with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals,
sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy. {15:17} So the
Levites appointed Heman the son of Yo'el; and of his brothers, Asaf
the son of Berekhyah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Etan
the son of Kushayahu; {15:18} and with them their brothers of the
second degree, Zekharyah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramot, and
Yechi'el, and Unni, Eli'av, and Benayah, and Ma`aseyah, and Mattityah,
and Eliflehu, and Mikneyahu, and Obed-edom, and Ye`i'el, the
doorkeepers. {15:19} So the singers, Heman, Asaf, and Etan, [were
appointed] with cymbals of brass to sound aloud; {15:20} and
Zekharyah, and Aziel, and Shemiramot, and Yechi'el, and Unni, and
 Eli'av, and Ma`aseyah, and Benayah, with psalteries set to `Alamot;
{15:21} and Mattityah, and Eliflehu, and Mikneyahu, and Obed-edom, and
Ye`i'el, and `Azazyahu, with harps tuned to the sheminit, to lead.
{15:22} Kananyah, chief of the Levites, was over the song: he
instructed about the song, because he was skillful. {15:23} Berekhyah
and Elkana were doorkeepers for the ark. {15:24} Shevanyah, and
Yoshafat, and Netan'el, and `Amasai, and Zekharyah, and Benayah, and
Eli`ezer, the [3>]Kohanim[<3], did blow the trumpets before the ark of
 God: and Obed-edom and Yechiyah were doorkeepers for the ark. {15:25}
So David, and the Zakenim of Yisra'el, and the captains over
thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of
the house of Obed-edom with joy. {15:26} It happened, when God helped
the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they
sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. {15:27} David was clothed with
a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites who bore the ark, and the
singers, and Kananyah the master of the song [with] the singers: and
David had on him an efod of linen. {15:28} Thus all Yisra'el brought
up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound
of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud
with psalteries and harps. {15:29} It happened, as the ark of the
covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Mikhal the
daughter of Sha'ul looked out at the window, and saw king David
dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.
