If you have leopard you allready have rails but it will be out of date. If you want to use hobo you need rails 2.1 NOT 2.1.1 as i found out.
In the terminal run sudo gem update --system This updates gems, then do sudo gem install rails --version '=2.1' Then just follow the instructions on the hobo site for installing hobo.
