At this very moment (12;01 pm on my clock) America is finally
rejoining the world community. It is an exciting day for us in the
states, and I am wondering how it appears from those in the Hobo
community around the world.

I think our small company, Barquin International, is a reflection of
the changes in the global community. Our founder, Ramon Barquin, was
born in Cuba and went on to become a US citizen and one of the
founders of The Data Warehousing Institute before starting his own
company.

Among the Barquin team members that are now American citizens are
those from the UK, India, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Canada, Columbia,
Bangladesh, The Philippines, and Nigeria.

I had a grandmother born in Spain, a grandfather whose family spent a
couple of centuries in Puerto Rico before coming to the states, and a
great-grandfather who came from Holland to build boats on the
Chesapeake Bay. I am, like many others, a “mutt”, as Barack Obama
described himself.

At the same time we celebrate our diversity and global connections, we
are also joined by the recent global financial challenges. I have
lived through three recessions, but this one feels much different.
But with every crisis there is always opportunity. There is a need
now for “agility” like no other time in recent memory.

I believe that Hobo can become one of the major tools to help us
respond in an “agile” and rigorous fashion to the critical and
unpredictable challenges soon to come. It is up to all of us to
contribute what we can and share the benefits...
