"slink" implies that you're doing something wrong.   There's no shame in 
doing things the Rails way.  Switching gradually from Rails ways to Hobo 
ways is not a bad way of learning Hobo.

And in the case of LDAP authentication, I would think that it would 
mostly be Rails code, anyways.  The biggest reason that Hobo includes a 
user system is because the permissions system is built on it, not to do 
"hobo magic".   Hobo's user system is deliberately minimal.
