+1 for csv. If you try to support MS binary format you will eventually (if not right away) get burned by a change in how they save something or in handling the 7-10 existing different save formats. Taking an excel file and saving as csv is a minor step and should be acceptable for all but the worst (read laziest/most incompetent) corporate intranet environments.
