It doesn't need to be that complicated. In MSAccess property fields you can specify "built in functions" to return "calculated field values". The same could be implemented in the form designer. At the level to which you refer, I think we're really talking about basic ruby functions. There could be a dialog box for helping people to generate the proper function content...as there is in MSAccess.

Getting the data formatted right is more what the problem is and a form that can handle that is going to be almost nightmarishly complicated.
