Dear colleagues - We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow to join us for a three-year project on Synthetic Biology at the University of Warwick, UK.
The fellowship is part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-site project to develop biological coatings to provide surfaces with protection from infections. Synthetic Biology is the culmination of many developments over the last few decades and allows genetic circuits to be designed and fabricated in lab, and then transplanted into bacterial chassis. The postdoctoral fellow will have an opportunity to explore the application of logical frameworks, type semantics, and compiler techniques into the domain of biology, and participate in the development of a novel and vibrant field of research. The fellow will develop a semantic basis for the design and analysis of abstract genetic circuits and their compilation into actual genetic code. As such, applicants must have a background in uses of logical formalisms, such as theorem provers, or in the study of formal semantics. Applications with prior study of Computational Biology are particularly welcome, although a formal background in Biology is not required. The position is funded by the EPSRC and the research fellow will be appointed at grade FA6, currently £27,428 - £35,788 pa. The project will start officially in February 2012, and we plan to appoint for a start as soon as possible after 1st February.
