Hi Desiree -
Sorry to hear of your Skype adventures.
If i'm not mistaken, you are running Windows 98? Or 98-SE? I think the problem is not Skype, but an incompatible Operating System on your computer. I know that is the case with one of my computers that is running Win ME and that is also the problem that Harmen had - not using Win 2000 or Win XP.
Sometimes software will run on OS versions that are not explicitly listed in the specs, but you can be (usually) assured that if an OS is listed as being compatible that it will work.
The spec sheet for Skype reads as follows:
System Requirements
In order to use Skype for Windows Beta software, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements:
- PC running Windows 2000 or XP
- 400 MHz processor
- 128 MB RAM
- 10 MB free disk space on your hard drive
- Sound Card, speakers and microphone
- Internet Connection (either dial-up: minimum 33.6 Kbps modem, or any broadband: cable, DSL, etc.)
You will need to either upgrade to use a compliant OS version OR download and use Skype for Linux. That would seem to be the best (most cost effective) solution for you.
Skype for Linux is available here:
Good luck with this.
love and peace,
joyce
PS - About your sound card: do you have the CD/diskette with the drivers that came with the sound card? Should be able to just reinstall, or download from the web. Good luck.

Hi friends,
It appears that Skype just disabled the new soundcard in my computer.
I tried to call Francis in Skype, which resulted in a total bugging of
windows. I had to turn off the computer. After re-starting windows did
not start up completely. At the point where the desktop should appear
everthing just stayed black....
I tried Linux. Linux started up as usual. Then I tried windows again....
black screen.
Then I tried windows in the safe mode. That worked. And after properly
closing off and starting windows again, fortunately windows desktop
appeared on the screen.
However I had the following notice:
"The AdioPCI interrupt has been routed incorrectly by the system. Sound
inactive. Use Automatic Settings in the Device Manager."
And also when Skype started:
"Warning: there are no recording devices available for Skype."
When I tried to open a radio chanel I had a notice that I should place a
soundcard first or install the proper drivers.
My computer went completely silent again :(
So.... it seems that there will be no voicemails from me till this is
somehow fixed.
And also a step further away again from voice chat
:-(
Skype does not appear to run stable on my computer as well....
Love,
Desi
