hmmmm .... [how can i make this a geek topic? ah ... i know! tomorrow i will tell you about how mayflies and crustations like Lobster do the molting of their exoskeletons as they grow ... it's a very similar process.]
tomorrow. but for now ... just uploaded some pics to: http://community.webshots.com/album/162852485aMLqPr if this doesn't link ... go to: http://community.webshots.com/user/objack2 and select the Way Up North album. check out those mozzies trying to get at me in the 1st photo!!!! ;) this is the mayfly hatch that is in progress even as we speak. the house was covered with them today ... and i finally got a few shots of them doing their molt. this evening ... as it was last night ... the air will be filled with them doing their mating "dance" ... millions of them!!!! the males flying up and down trying to draw the attention of the females. (we know how it works) ;) i ran out of light last night but will try to get a pic or two tonight. it's unbelievable ... they only live from 24 to 48 hours after molting ... will mate and then return to the rivers to lay their eggs. and that's it for them ... they've done their thing and die off. this is big time fish food for trout ... and the reason anglers tie flies to imitate them. ta ta -ts- ------------------------ Yahoo!
