Yes, sound advice. Also, having a laptop or PDA has the advantage of allowing a person to be online in moments when they would otherwise be powerless - say during power outages at home...
As long as the battery can recharge, connectivity is possible. For people with laptops, i recommend purchasing a spare battery. This Compaq Armada (yes, it is old) has a spare battery i swap for the removable A drive.

How do you clean the registry, Lob? Do you do it manually? That is brave.
I do it with MSCONFIG, on the Startup screen, but not all versios of MSCONFIG have a button there to clean the registry...

Yes, i am pleased with Fedora - it is Red Hat's foray into open source for their previously proprietary linux (well, as proprietary as linux could get).

Yes. It's true, i have not bought a new computer since 1984, when i bought an IBM XT. The only new computer here is Lizzie's Dell laptop that she earned all by herself through a mentoring program at HighSchool. Very kind and generous of them to reward her with a free computer!
New Year's Eve, i bought a used Dell desktop from some neighbors for $300. He is a software engineer and so the computer was loaded with wonderful things, and she is a yogini (really, she teaches yoga) and left me 2 great yoga videos... and a rather divine energy on the computer.

Wonderful! I have noticed that regularly my 56k modem connects at 28.8 BUT often it connects at 33333... That feels very good.
Thanks for all the helpfulness as usual, Lobster.
love and peace,
