the problems with updates you are hearing are probably for XP SP2 - an update to Win XP (so no worries for you) Well if you go the menu you can try running each program or if you use explorer you can navigate to program files and see all the program directories . . . ==== or probably with advisement ======= Go to control panel uninstall software you are not sure of and then reinstall it =========== > Another thing that kind of worries me is that my provider Wanadoo just > sent a message that as of May 17 they will only allow outgoing emails to > be sent from THEIR server and that if you have other adresses you have > to change them to their server as well. They are your ISP (they provide email sending) . . . > What are the consequences of this anyway? Will I still be able to use > other adresses on the cable at all? > Also they give directions to change these settings ONLY for Outlook > Express, which I have a dislike for, at first sight and never learned to > use. (A friend of mine has a computer for the first time and uses > Outlook Express and she tries to get me to explain her how to use it. > She keeps on losing the messages she wants to reply to and does not know > how to work with it. Well, neither do I. That mail programm completely > confuses me. LOL ) > My former provider also only recognised Outlook Express and they refused > to give tech support for Eudora. Well, now I use Morzilla, which I love, > but I guess will not get tech support for from any of the big companies. > Why are they all so keen on Outlook Express anyway? It has a louzy feel > to it and just seems a magnet to virusses. It must be very sick! It is widely used and provided with windows - so they support it because it is widely used it makes the 'best' target. I am using Outlook Express at this moment - if I go to an internet cafe or use a machine practically anywhere - Outlook Express will be on it. Not quite sure why you dislike its feel . . . It is the virus writers who are the problem incidentally. What is their illness? Good luck Desi. Eudora is a great program - used it for years. Maybe someone can offer further advisement.
