There has been some discussion on where homenet's scope is with respect to service discovery.
My recollection of the scope discussion with respect to service discovery in the home is that homenet would not try to pick any single service discovery mechanisms as the one and only one for homenet, but that would it aim to enable existing mechanisms to work with in a multi-segment, IPv6-enabled, home. The mechanism cited most often has been mDNS/DNS-SD (a.k.a. "Bonjour") which also seems to be the primary subject of the mdnsext BoF, however that does not preclude advacing a recommendation for LLMNR, SLP, or any other mechanism, as long as there is someone who will do the work and that work is limited to taking a protocol already defined for IPv4 and making sure it works in a multi-segment, IPv6, home network. - Mark _______________________________________________ homenet mailing list [email protected] https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/homenet
