I didn’t want to try to unpick the openwrt tools and integrate with larger distros tools, which sort of knocks on the head Tore’s suggestion of using namespaces as I’d still have the porting problem. Building a separate vm for openwrt seems like some complexity that I could do without at the moment, too, although I can see value in separating the network configuration from the application configuration.
