The readability issue of the digest version of the list that was pointed out by Leonard is a result of posters not adequately trimming the original message in their replies. When a thread has four of five posts in it and each one of them quotes the entire previous thread, it results in links to links to links to links to links. The number is multiplied exponentially with each succeeding post, to the point where the references form the majority of the post.
Solution number one is simply for people to spend an extra 10 seconds editing out all unnecessary information in their replies. When replying to a post, especially to a digest, PLEASE trim first, rather than simply hitting reply and typing above what's there. Solution number two is for me to figure out how to eliminate those references. I'm not familiar with the new version of Mailman and haven't yet found how to control those. Am I correct in believing that a majority would prefer them gone? Multiple levels of quoting also lead to lots of question marks to the beginning of lines, as every mail application has a different method of identifying quotes. The bottom line is this: Please be courteous to digest subscribers (over half of the total members) and edit your replies. Thanks, Dan ==================== Dan Phillips Associate Professor Rudi E.
