Leonard Brwon wrote: When we get into Bb horns the names Alex, Paxman, Schmid and many other fine horns from Europe come up, but at one time Sansone, right here in the good ol US, ruled the roost of Bb horns. I have seen "Sansone Model" stamped on Alexanders and Kruspes, I think they had to pay to copy Sansone's 5-valve design. Those are 2 I know of, were there other builders making them? Carl Geyer is pretty well known as America's great builder/designer, but for awhile he was on Sansone's payroll cranking out 5 valve Bb horns. Funny how Sansone is left out of these conversations about Bb horns.
LLBrown, Laredo ---------- Sansone did indeed design the very popular 5 valve Bb horn (which was parodied in the Schmitzig Horn Method as the Schmutzone 19 vale horn mit der elektrical schpit-valve mechanism). But he produced very few in his own factory. Sansone branded horns were made under contract by many famous and obscure German makers. The most famous makers' horns were co-branded, e.g. Kruspe. King also produced a very good version of the Sansone Bb as their model 1155. Bruce Tubbs has been making replicas out of King model 1158 4 valve horns and also had an original for sale, last I saw.
